Common wall problems in Macclesfield
Property types
Weavers' cottages and stone terraces have soft masonry that's easily damaged by blasting or hard cement pointing.
Local climate
On the edge of the Peak District, Macclesfield sees heavy rain and cold winters that drive frost damage into porous stone and failing joints.
Streets & access
Steep, narrow historic streets require careful access planning.
Building age
Many buildings are listed or in conservation areas, where traditional lime-based materials are essential.
Stone cleaning in Macclesfield
Decades of soot and grime darken Macclesfield's stone. DOFF steam at 150°C lifts it without abrasive damage.
Lime pointing and limewash
Traditional lime mortar and limewash keep historic walls breathing. Check consent requirements for listed buildings.
Modern rendering
K-Rend systems suit newer homes and extensions in and around Macclesfield.
